Plain Talk Beats Polished Jargon—Especially With Your Numbers
A lot of folks in business think jargon makes them sound sharp. Truth is, it just puts distance between you and the person you’re talking to.
“Improving operational efficiency” doesn’t mean a thing to most owners. But if I say, “You’re losing money every month because your invoices go out late and clients pay slow,” that lands. You’ve seen it. You’ve felt it.
Same goes for bookkeeping. Some accountants will bury you under terms like “revenue recognition” or “accounts payable aging.” Sounds impressive, but it doesn’t help you steer the ship. What you need is plain talk: “You’ve got more going out than coming in, and that’s why you’re tight on cash.”
The job isn’t to sound smart—it’s to make sure you understand where your business really stands. Numbers don’t lie, but if they’re wrapped in jargon, they might as well.
That’s why I explain books in straight language. No smoke, no mirrors. Just the truth about your business, laid out so you can make decisions that keep you moving forward.
